About Cold Freeze

Four decades keeping New Jersey cold, running, and open for business.

Frank Ferraj built Cold Freeze Technologies on one idea: when a walk-in fails or a rooftop unit quits, the people depending on it can’t afford to wait for dispatch queues or “we’ll send someone Thursday.” He has worked on commercial refrigeration for 40+ years — the same hands-on standard still runs every job we put a tech on today.

We design, install, and service refrigeration and HVAC for restaurants, food processors, hotels, warehouses, and industrial facilities across NJ, NY, and PA — including Anderson International Foods and Summerset Syrup. Fully licensed (NJ License #13VH03913000), insured, and workers’-comp covered. Every install backed by a 1-to-10 year warranty. Every emergency call answered by a tech who has actually fixed the equipment — not a script.

“Most contractors do restaurants OR manufacturers. We do both — and handle the full scope under one NJ license.” — Frank Ferraj, Owner

Common Questions

What restaurant owners actually ask us

Forty years in the trade means Frank has heard every question. These are the real ones — answered straight.

Nine times out of ten it's one of three things: a dirty condenser coil starving the compressor, a refrigerant leak that's dropped the charge below operating pressure, or a failed evaporator fan motor. Frank has seen all three kill a walk-in right before a weekend rush. A condenser cleaning is $180–$240. A refrigerant recharge runs $300–$600 depending on the system. If the compressor itself is done, that's a different conversation — but we'll tell you straight whether it's worth replacing or time for a new box.
We're based in Aberdeen Township — off the Parkway and Route 35. Most Monmouth County jobs are 20–35 minutes. Middlesex County is 30–45 minutes. Staten Island and Brooklyn run 45–70 minutes depending on traffic. Emergency calls get answered by a real tech, not an answering service. If we're already on a job, we'll tell you the honest ETA.
General rule: if the repair cost is more than half the replacement cost and the unit is 10+ years old, replacing is usually smarter math. A new compressor on a 15-year-old walk-in is a gamble — you fix the compressor, then the evaporator coil goes six months later. Frank will give you both numbers before you decide. No pressure either way.
Yes — deli cases, pizza prep tables, sandwich units, bar coolers, beer caves, and reach-ins of every brand. Hussmann, Tyler, True, Beverage-Air, Turbo Air — we've worked on all of them. Most reach-in repairs run $180–$380. A thermostat or door gasket is on the low end; a compressor swap on a True unit is on the higher end.
Depends on what we're installing. Walk-in refrigeration systems carry 1–5 year parts warranties. New HVAC equipment (Carrier, Lennox, York) comes with the manufacturer's 5–10 year warranty, and we back our labor for 1 year on top of that. Frank walks through exactly what's covered before any install — nothing buried in the fine print.
Yes. NJ License #13VH03913000, fully insured, and workers'-comp covered — every tech, every job. This matters more than people realize: an unlicensed contractor's work can void your health department approval and your building insurance. Don't find that out the hard way.
Yes. We've done full cooling and heating systems for Anderson International Foods and Summerset Syrup, plus warehouse cooling and ventilation at industrial scale. If you're running a food-processing facility or large cold-storage operation, call us — most contractors won't touch that scope. We will.
Quarterly inspections: condenser cleaning, refrigerant pressure check, evaporator coil inspection, belt and bearing check, temperature log review, and a written service report each visit. Clients on maintenance contracts get priority scheduling during emergencies — your call jumps the queue. Most contracts run $280–$480/quarter depending on how many units.
Full install: hood, makeup-air unit, exhaust fan, fire suppression rough-in coordination, and code-compliance paperwork. We've done hoods for pizza shops, full-service restaurants, and school cafeterias across NJ. Code here is Type I for cooking equipment producing grease-laden vapors — we file the right permits and don't cut corners.
